Dollmore and Dream of Doll update

July 9th, 2008 (12:54 pm)

current mood: drained

Dollmore is going to send me the correct wig via airmail. Probably take weeks to get here and it has no tracking number so it's probably going to get lost.

Here is the long letter I posted to Dream of Doll:
Hello, Dream of Doll,

This is concerning my order, xxx.

First off, a sincere thank you to everyone who worked so hard getting me the Hoo fullset with the hands I wanted. I greatly appreciate all the work the person who handles the Q&A board did for me. Lots of thanks and hugs to this delightful person who communicates with me in such a loving and caring manner.

My Hoo arrived and it has taken me this long to finally think clearly about it. Aspects of him are absolutely beautiful and perfect, but others have really upset me.

When I first saw him, he was so beautiful. Those amazing green eyes! The faceup with the lower lashes like the art I sent! He was smirky yet had a scowl because of his eyebrows. His face was lovely! The artist did a wonderful job! I replaced the green eyes with golden peach acrylics and the character came alive! Wow!

The wigs you sent are incredible! The black one is so soft and flatters his face so well. Too bad the character is blond so the wig doesn't work for him. The frosted lavender fur wig is amazing! So soft and beautiful! I have a doll who has claimed that wig because it's so awesome.

Then I noticed the black and grey specks all over his face. I hoped it was residue from packing, but that was not the case. I was able to gently brush off most of them with a magic eraser, however, a grey mark on his left cheek and a prominent black mark on the side of his chin would not come off. I knew I couldn't work on the cheek mark without destroying the beautiful blushing. And I ended up actually rubbing off part of the faceup blush on his chin as I worked to get that particular dot off. It looked like the spot might be IN the resin since it would not come off. After a week, I was FINALLY able to get the black dot on his chin off by using a used injection syringe needle from my weekly shots to gently scrape off the spot. The grey dot on his cheek remains.

After finding the spots on his cheek and chin, I was a little disappointed. So instead of brooding about it right after opening the box, I decided to try on the two outfits I purchased from you when they first came out.

The leather outfit D-155 (DOC): http://www.ecinter.net/frontstore/Item/item_zoom.asp?item_num=542&catalog_num=5&mart_id=hoo933&level=&mother_catalog_num=89

The D-164 (DOC) suit: http://www.ecinter.net/frontstore/Item/item_zoom.asp?item_num=645&catalog_num=5&mart_id=hoo933&level=&mother_catalog_num=89

I had another disappointment - both fit too tight across the shoulders in the back. These are supposed to be his default clothing sets and he cannot move his arms forward because the clothing is so tight in the shoulders and armholes.

Well, I left him in his leathers and he wore them when I took him to his first mini-meet the next evening because some of the locals HAD to see him immediately. Yes, we're doll crazy here in Dallas, TX. They ooh-ed and ahh-ed all over him.

My Hoo can stand like a rock! I put him down and he stands perfectly without me adjusting anything! He can stand with his legs bent and his legs aren't kicky. He is wonderful! This made me very happy!

Then two days later I discovered something that finally made me really angry.

As you advertise, the Hoo is supposed to be 45cm in height. I even asked about this on 4/25/08 (Q&A #163) and the 45cm height was confirmed in the answer.

Well, I finally decided to introduce him to some of my other msd-sized dolls... and discovered my Hoo is 43cm, which is TOO SHORT for the character he is supposed to represent! I am VERY upset!

I have a 45cm Dollzone and he's taller than my Hoo, which is wrong. The Hoo is supposed to be the same height as my Dollzone! Not only that, the doll my Hoo is supposed to be paired with is 43cm and they are exactly the same height. They look terrible next to each other!

The Hoo is supposed to be taller and that was one of the reasons why I purchased him in the first place! I even ordered the old long-leg body, thinking that was the 45cm body since that's what's shown on the Hoo page!

No, my Hoo will not wear platform shoes to fix this. I cannot stand platforms (or skulls and crosses) on my dolls. The doll was advertised as being 45cm tall and he's not.

It has taken me a while to get my anger, sadness and disappointment under control so I could send this to you without crying and yelling.

You cannot do anything about this now. I'm stuck with a doll that's too short but this is the ONLY doll whose face fits the character (and I've searched for a year and a half!), so I am just going to have to live with him being too short and figure out a way to explain why the characters look wrong next to each other in the photo storyline.

What can Dream of Doll do so this does not happen to others? Do not advertise your dolls being 45cm. They are 43cm, and while many people don't seem to be concerned about it, those of us who build our doll collections with a concentrated effort to have different heights and styles to match particular characters depend on accurate measurements. When these are not correct, massive disppointment happens.

The Iplehouse wigs arrived. Chikara will have a new wig to wear to Dollectable, if the thing fits. I haven't tried it on him yet, since I picked up the box before work today. Now he won't look like the wig has been licked repeatedly. I kinda like how it now separates into clumps but I think I need to give it one more serious wash to see if it is salvagable. It's a bit worn on the top.

I hope that they just gave you the wrong legs... and that they fix the wrong advertizement... and that they adjust the clothing size so that they all fit properly...

Poor Shindo... he is being hunted by a shorty

I hope they do change their advertisement... It's wrong and its very upsetting to find things like this when the dolls get to us. Though I always wondered why they never had the height listed on the new body types? Only on certain new dolls they have a height specified & only some of their older head molds dolls have their height as 43cm?

Maybe they sent you an older body? I do hope this gets sorted out somehow ;_;

Eiri and Eeyore

They have a height listing for all the dolls out there and it says 45cm for the DOCs. It doesn't designate old or new body, either. The four warriors (including the Hoo) are specifically marked as 45cm.

I really didn't want the new body since Shindo doesn't have the same joint system.
