Ki status, Wasabi's new eyes, Yuki's uniform, Eiri's shoes, pirate shirts, meetup

July 24th, 2009 (01:46 am)

I broke down and asked Dream of Doll about Ki's status yesterday. I got an answer back -

Dear, ******

Hi ^^

We are really sorry about make you wait too long.

We are working on your doll and it is almost finish now.
So, we can send your doll on next week:)

Really sorry again..
We will try to send your order quickly.

-Dream of doll

Sometimes I suspect the doll companies are less likely to get dolls done very quickly if you don't ask about your resin after their posted scheduled mail-out time. The site says five weeks and I waited almost seven before asking about him. Yeah, I know they're swamped with their free faceup special, but still, come on, folks! Sure, it's expected from some companies. I don't know HOW those who order from Soom can stand the months and months and months of waiting.

In other news, I got my Dollmore order today (Jeeze that was quick - less than a week from order to delivery!) and now Wasabi has green eyes much like the ones she was wearing in the sales thread. It's amazing how her attitude has changed - she's no longer pissed off all the time! Now she looks calm and knowing. Amazing how eye colour can change a doll's expression. She's even sitting with the rest of the Crew now! Before, I had her on the craft table, working on jewelry, and I never felt her have any inclination to join the Crew. After the eyes went in, I looked at her, she WANTED to be hugged and was happy as a clam to join everyone else.

Yuki got a new suit, sorta a uniform. A bit of a pisser - the crest patch is on the wrong side of the jacket. It looks absolutely weird. I think I'll have to send a complaint photo to Dollmore. I don't expect them to fix it, but they do need to know it's wrong and they need get rid of the defective ones.

I swear, every time I pick him up, I love on Yuki. Something about him makes me so happy, and it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If I hadn't started with large dolls, I think I would have been content with just Yuki and Shindo, even though they don't have any double joints. Ah, but that's water under the bridge.

All my guys are great, even the severely anti-social ones. I've GOT to find Hatori a girlfriend! Nasake is so much more even-tempered after beaded girl's Dori decided he was the one for her.

Eiri has two new pairs of shoes and one new pair of boots. Damn, that guy has gigundous feet! The boots are a bit ren faire-looking. I also got some of those piratey shirts so when I make great kilts for the Crew they will have shirts to go with them, instead of me cussing at the sewing machine while struggling to make poofy shirts for them. Great kilts are easy to make - fold and go.

Meetup at El Guapo's this weekend. Though it's tempting to take a lot of dolls to it, I think I'm going to stick with mostly tinies again.

There is a drawing of young!Eiri in one of the earlier volumes (Volume 2, maybe?) I think it's the track where Shuichi first meets Tatsuha; Eiri is reminiscing about how people remarked on his Western looks. As I remember, he was wearing shorts and a backpack.

BTW, am I nuts, or does he look much shorter as a sixteen-year old than as an adult? MM's been somewhat inconsistent in how she draws teenage!Eiri (not surprising, is it?), and even in the manga he tends to look a couple of years younger than he is, but he looks like he's shorter than Kitazawa, and Kitazawa doesn't look all that tall to me. It's not inconceivable that he would grow quite a bit between age sixteen and age twenty-two, but it could also be MM's tendency to shota-ize any characters meant to look young.

Cranky but Cute - chibi Eiri

It doesn't surprise me to see Japanese kids looking younger than their actual age in anime and manga. It's probably partially due to the 'kawaii' factor - shorter and cuter is more endearing. It's not just MM doing it, either.

I am familiar with that image of schoolboy Eiri. It's a sad little drawing in my mind - the people not thinking about what they're saying out-loud in front of the poor kid. Ki is going to be a little older than toddler (4 or 5), which is much younger than the drawing. Ki has already told me he will refuse to wear shorts. Luckily I have long pants for my child dolls, too.

eiri black & white arm to head

That image is sad and is one of the reasons I relate to Eiri. I was the only kid of any Asian heritage whatever in my school until late in junior high. By the time I graduated, there were two other Asian or part-Asian families with kids in school. The most exotic ethnicities otherwise were Italian and Polish; there were three Jewish kids in a graduating class of over 300, and one African-American family.

In elementary school I got called a lot of names: chink, jap, and commie, mostly. Since I was part Korean, I wasn't any of those things, but it wasn't worth trying to explain that. Looking back, those names might not have been meant as maliciously as they felt like they were, but at the time it was very scarring.

It sounds like some of adult!Eiri's attitude has rubbed off on Ki, with him telling you he will refuse to wear shorts.

.... a little part of me dies everytime I waited for a Soom MD LOL

Jin (the customer service from Soom) hates me, I am sure of it LOL LOL

The wait for DOD has been just ok for me - 4 months the last two times.

Trio of Terror

Four months wait for one DOD doll? That's unacceptable!

Yeah, I don't how you Soom fans do it over and over again.
