THANK YOU, everyone for helping us Saturday and Sunday! We're starting at around 9am on Saturday and Sunday's start time will be determined after we see what all gets done on Saturday.

We'll have bottled water in the old fridge to keep you hydrated.

The plan for the kitchen is to move the drawers and cabinets one at a time so things will be put in the same places in the new kitchen. Same for the bathroom drawers/cabinets.

We have a long built-in hallway storage area in the hall and those staged items are for hand-carrying, too.

Many of the boxes will be put in the second bedroom and left until our chance to purchase a house is firmed up. Other boxes will go in the room we use as our bedroom to distribute the weight throughout the place.

Clothes will moved by the hanger method. My sweaters/sweats are on a top shelf and are put away by the 'throw up on the shelf' method, very sloppy but stacking them doesn't let me get to them since the stacks are so tall.

The Xmas closet is a loadmaster's dream or nightmare. It is packed tightly and everything fits so that configuration needs to be used in the corresponding closet in the new apt.

We're planning on pizza for everyone on Saturday to refuel you. Papa Johns is having a good special so we can get specialty pizzas. We'll get meat ones and a veggie one and the works. If you have a particular request, just let us know and we can do a half and half of something. Here's the more detailed pizza entry: http://onnas-baka-gaki.livejournal.com/205408.html

We'll figure out what to get you to eat on Sunday depending on how many people show up for the hole patching and sterilization. If we get most of the move done on Saturday we'll start the cleaning later that day, which will make me very happy since the actual move will be OVER and the cleaning is all that's left.

Kyrenea has purchased some snacks and will bring them Saturday afternoon and we'll we have them Sunday, too.

Oh, don't forget to bring your slot and Phillips screwdrivers (no, not the drink! LOL!) so we can get all the wall shelving down quickly.

If you need directions, please email me at b_onna@yahoo.com or PM me over at DOA.

I'll try to answer your questions but currently I have not slept at ALL for the last three days.

1/27/10 UPDATE: I'm making a list of the different things here so everyone will keep up-to-date with the things I need to remember when the weekend comes around. Just keep watching this entry for more information on what to bring, etc.

I heard the cleaning crew next door and they were up on ladders and detail-cleaning the ceiling fan in the kitchen as well as scrubbing the counters and cabinets. We don't have any stepladders but two end tables that are strong enough for someone to stand on to get to the two ceiling fans and clean off the blades. The new place has FOUR of them.

If you have a short stepladder you want to use, please bring it because it will be easier to move around to the different places in the apartment.

Please bring your cleaning supplies/tools of choice since I don't know if we'll have enough to go around for everyone. I have two face masks (if I haven't accidentally packed them) if dust bothers you but you may have your own. We have one broom and believe it or not, I sweep the very old carpet first before I vacuum to get the dust and hair to come to the surface. We moved into this place with this nasty carpet (got a discount for taking it that way) but you can tell it's really old. And it likes to eat things.

We have a VERY large old rug (from my grandmother's house in Virginia) that will need to be vacuumed. I would love to beat it a bit before putting back down but it may be logistically impossible due to its large size. If you have stuff you can bring to beat thick wool rugs with, that would be great. However, if someone has a super vac, that can suck a lot of dust quickly, I'd appreciate it if you brought it. That may help the area rug.

Note: Don't be surprised when you see blue masking tape around all the outlets. The smoke comes through them. And the sink's cabinet is completely sealed with blue tape to keep the smoke in there from coming through so strongly.

Sunday will require a Home Depot trip to get wood to replace the rotting wood we removed from under the sink.

1/27/10 UPDATE: Hopefully the weather will not bring in any lasting freezing drizzle on Friday so you all can safely arrive on Saturday. We can only cross our fingers that nothing drastic hits us so everyone will feel comfortable about driving over here.

Bad news! They didn't clean the carpet today but are supposed to do it tomorrow morning. I really wanted to have it dry and unchemical-smelling before moving in.

Good news! They will let us in at 2pm instead of 4pm on Friday! This will give us a few extra hours to get the essential stuff into the new place before the bruiser movers arrive between 4-6pm.

Cable guy will be coming by on Saturday between 11am and 1pm. We definitely want him to get us set up so we can have internet in the new place and keep in touch with everyone.

1/28/10 update:

Cthulhu's vacation homes are in the toilets. It's really disgusting so please forgive us.

1/29/10 update:

If you have short step-stools you can use to get to unscrew the wall brackets up high you might want to bring them. I have one and mel is borrowing one but you might want to bring one for yourself so we can get the shelving off and stored quickly. I'll set up bags for the nails and shelf holders so they can be stored separately and they don't slide around all over the place.

1/29/10 update #2:

The snow started and stopped here pretty quickly so I hope it's that way for you in your area, too, so you will have no trouble traveling tomorrow. Naturally, I'm freaking out about it, concerned that many of you will not be able to make it after all. I'm doing a lot of praying. It figures the weather would change when we needed it to be mild.

Lots of the large furniture pieces have been moved by the hired movers earlier this evening. We still have LOTS to move - lots and lots of boxes, all the clothes and all closet contents, the whole kitchen, the computer room, and other things. Then the cleaning, which includes getting rid of the extra boxes, scrubbing and cleaning and lots of vacuuming. Some pelts have been discovered behind the furniture that never moved after we moved in 18 years ago.

I have one of those swiffer extendable duster thingies. I used that to clean all the ceiling fans in my old apt that had vaulted ceilings; I'll be it along. ^^

Thanks for reminding me about the mask, dust really does bother me so now I'll remember to bring one along. ^_^

I also have some spackle, blade to put it on with, and sand paper, for filling in nail holes and the like, would you like me to bring them as well?

Cool! We have gobs of the Swifter refills right now so we can provide those for you.

I am an incredibly straight single GUY when it comes to cleaning, or the lack thereof. I have to start tapping into my gay guy side soon so I can start cleaning correctly.

Glad the mask reminder helped!

PLEASE bring the spackle! I just use my finger to stick it on and rub it smooth but you can do it whatever way you want to do it. We have a lot of thumbtack holes currently exposed and eventually we'll have gobs of holes from the wall shelving as soon as they get removed.

Thank you, K! *starts crying* You are being SO helpful!

Will see if I can borrow mother's step ladder (and maybe steal you a few more boxes in the process). If I can figure out where our vacuum is (haven't seen ours since we moved) it does have some sucking power on rugs and while it may take a few passes i'm sure we could get most of it out. If I had something to beat it with I'd do that too though....

Sounds great.

I just left a message with the folks about borrowing their step stool, too.

We have a pretty good vacuum but I definitely want to exchange it for a HEPA vacuum to help keep the dust down.

Excellent! Hopefully we'll have enough so everyone can get to the shelving needing disassembling so it can be done quickly.

9am-ish. Some people will probably be a little late but that's okay. I know mel and Logan can't get here until after the bank opens at 9am.
