bits and pieces

March 16th, 2007 (10:58 pm)

The mini meetup on Thursday was really fun and relaxing. We had timeless_rose, fullmetalsqishy, mmc_ningyouai, rat and myself taking over a section of the Steak and Shake and covering two tables with dolls. Luckily, the place was pretty empty. It was amusing how, after one large group left, we had the section to ourselves and all the new customers sat WAY over on the other side. *laughs* Dolls are scary.... Booga! Booga!

I hope timeless_rose got home okay, though - she was wilting a bit.

I know my back told me all about it after we were done. I stayed in bed most of the day, just to recoop.

Big doll meetup/work day on Saturday. I hadn't planned on bringing everyone except my blank practice heads but it seems the area folks want to see and bring everyone. Oh well. It is going to be a tight squeeze in the back room so I hope we can manage it.

By the emails I have received, it seems both the Dollmore and the LUTS order have been given EMS numbers and are in the process of being shipped.

Still have gobs of photos to work on and post. *sigh* At least I got the present post finished. It took a week to do it, with me working in a private entry the whole time while I coded the thing. Now I find out Firefox hates the table so I will now change the format for any future stories. I happen to like having the text next to the photo instead of under the photo, but Firefox doesn't like it within the lj theme so I am going to have to change how I do it and just put all the text under the photo. It's not very elegant, but at least it won't go wonky anymore.

Brushed out Nasake's wig, again. That thing can look like it has been licked the wrong way sometimes. Well, the wig is VERY soft so people like to pet him. The oil gunks up his hair a bit. I think I am going to baby powder it next time I work on it, just to get the oil out more.

I best go to bed soon...

I am forever grooming Sadat's hair, meanwhile Olo almost never needs touchups. I guess some wigs are more prone to fritzing out than others.

Nasake's wig is a high-quality Japanese fiber number. I wish I could find a fur wig for him, then the work would be almost non-existent.

Hatori's bitty wig stays pretty tame but Eiri's bitty wig likes to stick stray hairs out all the time. The poor grump has perpetual bed head!

Skah's wig is in constant need of attention >.<

and I know the feeling of over working your body... I hope your back and my shoulder hold out for the meet tomorrow ^.^ It would suck not being able to do Skah's face due to not being able to move my arm

Anyhows see you tomorrow

That Recall default can be a monster, too!

See you later today!

Weird...it always works fine for me, and *I* use firefox...

The tables work, but the size of the images pushes the text outside the background, which makes a lot of the text unreadable without being highlighted.

Hopefully my quick style sheet over-ride has helped fix this, even though the text is now cramped in a little box. *laugh* Poor abused text!

You probably have a high screen resolution, which helps the situation.

I honestly think the best solution is to use a different image site and to make slightly smaller images that link to bigger ones, so that the tables don't get all messed up. Then you can keep the layout, and don't have to simply keep the smaller images.

I went in and changed the style sheet for the lj layout and adjusted the table so the entry should look okay now.

The screen resolution is a factor, too. My laptop's highest resolution is at 1024x768 but I know the typical resolution for monitors is much higher now and those people can see the table just fine in Firefox. It's a bit strange the lj does this, especially since (as far as I know) the industry standard is still 800x600 to accomodate the smaller monitors and the aging population with bad eyesight.

Making thumbnails to link to larger ones is a lot of extra work and each one has to be done separately to make sure the image looks halfway decent. Plus, a lot of people will not want to click on the thumbnail to see the larger image - it's that instant gratification thing - so it is best to show the image as is. I know there are times I don't want to be bothered with clicking to a larger image, especially if I only have a little time to look at fun stuff, like looking while at lunch at work with only a half-hour to eat.

It will just be a lot easier all around to completely change how I post stuff in the future and take out the table coding completely. I will put the text under each centered photo and a dividing line between each entry.

*nods* I understand. I've got my screen resolution at 1024 x 768 too. It's always so difficult to work around different resolutions. Hopefully this works better.

The more simple solution will work better - no more having to deal with crossing my eyes having to figure out where to put the table data.

It may not be as 'elegant', but it will be easier on my coding eyes and people will be able to read what I spent way too much time writing.

I DO appreciate you pointing this out - I would have never known it was being troublesome - Thank you!

I was really worried I would come across as bossy or bitchy or something. Thank you for listening and working so hard to find a fix for it! *hugs*

it was fun, I still need to get my pictures up.... Yggdrasil's first time meeting other dollies! Talking about being tired, I went bowling last night so I still hope my arm's well enough for a face up... thank got I'm not painting (lol I find mini heads too difficult to paint on and get good effects with pastels and watercolor pencils. lol I said I'd demo a no paint method if people were interested ^_^). Yay meet today! I'm sorry I think you can blame me for the bringing of all dolls, it just doesn't feel like a dollmeet without a bunch of em being there, and I seriously think there's safe room for them, cause I remembered last time it wasn't so much the dolls as the doll bags that were taking up space and I seriously think just walking back out and stashing them back in the car would be no biggie, at last it's not to me. yay for luts and dollmore orders shipping! OH and are you still wanting to hop on my group order. I know you said you wanted an ear drill...

I have my photos on the laptop and need to send them to Last Gasp this morning before the meetup so they are in two places. It will probably be a while before I get to them - the lot includes the kimono group shots, too.

Yes, I want to get an ear drill, just to have one in the kit.

See you in a few hours!
